RESIDENTS ACROSS the Gold Coast will have the chance to view the winning design for the Cultural Precinct in a Touring Exhibition featuring a scale model, ‘fly-through’ animation and images.
During 2013 the City of Gold Coast held an international design competition for a landmark Cultural Precinct.
The striking winning design, by ARM Architecture + Topotek1 is touring Gold Coast Libraries and interstate venues during 2014. First stop is Elanora Library from 24 February to 15 March.
Together with the Gold Coast’s Culture Strategy, the precinct will help shape the city’s cultural future.
It will become the city’s civic and cultural heart, based at Evandale, but supporting and nurturing arts and culture right across the Gold Coast.
It will become a ‘must-visit’ cultural tourism destination and support the growth of creative and allied industries.
And it will provide new, local jobs for future generations of Gold Coasters.
Reveal prize draw winner
CAPTION: Destry Puia, General Manager of The Arts Centre Gold Coast (left), and City of Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate present Linda Van Viersen with her prize.
Linda Van Viersen, of Helensvale, was among the 4500 visitors to The Reveal exhibition of entries and related events at The Arts Centre Gold Coast last November and December. Linda took the time to complete a feedback form, with the following comment:
"I hope that the design includes recreational areas and the lake will still be used for families and swimming etc, and there is provision for cycling.
Love it, love it, love it! And I love that the Australian firm won!"
Her form was selected at random as the winner of the 'Picture Yourself in the Cultural Precinct' feedback draw prize - tickets to a show and a night's accommodation in Surfers Paradise, kindly donated by The Arts Centre Gold Coast.
Now, Linda, a Gold Coast-based drama tutor and performer, is keen for others to see the Cultural Precinct Touring Exhibition as it makes its way around Gold Coast libraries and other venues during 2014.
