The Gold Coast is building its cultural future.
With a Culture Strategy 2023 in place, the Gold Coast has big ideas to achieve its vision of a city -
'Built on Creativity and Transformed by Imagination'.
Catalysts include the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games™, supporting cultural development across the city and the Gold Coast Cultural Precinct. A landmark Cultural Precinct will fulfil the city’s long-held desire for a civic, artistic and cultural heart befitting a population of 600,000 residents and 12 million annual visitors. With a 2013 winning design and 2014 precinct Masterplan in hand, the city has taken the first, important steps towards delivering Stage 1 by 2018.
The Masterplan will enable the project to be staged, over 10 – 15 years, as funding becomes available. And the City of Gold Coast is playing a pivotal, coordinating role. But a project of this size and complexity will take time, and a cooperative effort. Support will be needed from governments, business, the arts and cultural sector, philanthropists and the community.
Precinct neighbours will be kept up to date with construction news, events and activities. Local suppliers and workers will benefit from new jobs during construction and creative industries can look forward to a wide range of opportunities on completion. There will be plenty of chances to get involved, have your say and contribute to building our cultural future.
